2012 CGi Annual Dinner
On Friday 27 April 2012, at the 5 Star luxury venue of the Old Government House Hotel & Spa, the annual Confederation of Guernsey industry (CGi) Dinner took place. CGi was formed in 1995 to represent the interests of businesses outside the finance, tourism and retail sectors. This represented sector now accounts for over 18% of Guernsey’s Economic Activity, it includes over 100 companies and employs nearly 5000 staff.
The evening consisted of a welcome drinks reception, followed by a delicious three course meal and continued with an insightful talk from the highly accredited Guest Speaker, Mike Edwards, Royal Marines Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a question and answer session. To conclude a raffle was held in aid of the Charity Hope for a Child to raise much needed funds to help the World’s poorest families and their children to rise out of poverty.
Guest Speaker, Mike Edwards, discussed in detail his experiences in Basra during the Iraq War where he served as a Royal Marine Reserve officer in a Field Surgical Unit just minutes away from the front line, the closest any military hospital had been since The Battle of the Somme in 1916. His inspiring talk gave insight into how ordinary people can achieve the most extraordinary feats even when under the most difficult of circumstances.
The evening was kindly sponsored by Law At Work (LAW). First opening it offices in Guernsey in 2011, LAW is an outsourced HR support service, solely owned by Channel Islanders. They create tailor made services to help provide commercial advice on every type of workplace issue ranging from everyday HR queries through to more technically complex project work.
