The 30th annual conference of the Red Ensign Group was held in Guernsey in June 2018 and is an opportunity to share best practise and discuss matters of interest.
The Red Ensign Group is comprised of the United Kingdom, Crown Dependencies (Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey) and UK Overseas Territories (Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, St Helena and the Turks & Caicos Islands) which operate shipping registers.
The GEC worked with the Registry of British Ships and the States of Guernsey Harbour office on all aspects of the conference including local transfers, hotel accommodation, conference logistics and a programme of social events for the 94 attending delegates across all of their member countries.
The GEC worked with the States of Guernsey on all aspects involved in the planning and delivery of the British Irish Council meeting at the St Pierre Park Hotel in June 2018.
The British Irish Council meets twice a year in one of the member jurisdictions. Attending politicians included Rt Hon David Liddington, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for the Cabinet Office; Rt Hon Karen Bradley, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland; Rt Hon Nicola Stugeon, First Minister of Scotland; Carwyn Jones, First Minister of Wales; and Leo Varadkar, Taoiseach
This was the fifth BIC Summit The GEC has worked on following the Guernsey Summits in 2011 and 2014 and Jersey in 2013 and 2017.
