DIGITAL GUERNSEY: GREAT PEOPLE: GREAT INNOVATIONS
After its successful inaugural event in 2016, FinVention will be held for the second time on Wednesday 15th November 2017 at St James, St Peter Port, as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, which is celebrated in 125 countries across six continents worldwide and is celebrated locally by Startup Guernsey.
Combining three central themes – Digital Guernsey, Great People and Great Innovations – FinVention 2017 will be an interactive one-day forum showcasing ‘the best of breed’ in innovative technological products and services in the FinTech, digital, creative and start-up sectors.
The FinVention Stage will feature a number of fast paced presentations from individuals and companies who have products and services at different stages of development; some may be at the initial stages of securing investment, others will be more mature and will have adapted to the ever increasing consumer demand for innovation and invention. FinVention 2017 is the opportunity to connect participants to potential collaborators; to demonstrate inventive ideas to secure interest and constructive feedback and to attract first or second-stage investment into technologically driven products and services across all types of business.
FinVention is supported by local government and industry as well as by partner organisations the Digital Greenhouse, Locate Guernsey and Startup Guernsey. The Committee for Economic Development, working through Digital Guernsey, is fully supportive of FinVention and is committed to working with industry to provide the right environment to facilitate and support digital businesses to be commercially successful in Guernsey.
“Communication is at the heart of the digital and borderless technological age which now dominates and shapes the 21st century” said Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen, member of both Committees for Economic Development and for Education. “Guernsey has already demonstrated its leadership role in supporting and encouraging digital innovation across all sectors from Finance to Creative. FinVention is an ideal platform for the newest technological products and services to communicate and stimulate conversation between purchasers, users, partners and investors.”

PROMS ON THE PIER 2017
Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 September 2017
Guernsey Proms are a celebration of world-class orchestral and choral musical excellence and the patriotism, singing and cultural history of the Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall in London.
The original aim of the 19th century Promenade Concerts (that became the BBC Proms) mirrors that of Guernsey’s Proms on the Pier: to present the widest range of music, performed to the highest standards, to large audiences.
The founder and originator of the Proms series was 19th century impresario Robert Newman who was also the manager of the newly built Queen’s Hall in London; the first home of the Proms concerts. Newman wanted to reach a wider audience by offering popular programmes, adopting a less formal promenade arrangement and keeping ticket prices low.
These are the same objectives that are the foundations of Proms on the Pier and Proms on the Bay in Guernsey. Spectators and music enthusiasts will enjoy 2017 Proms on the Pier at no cost and will listen to and watch an evening of musical excellence.
More information on this fantastic event will be published during the spring of 2017.

After a six year absence the Guernsey Boat Show is making a welcome return to Guernsey’s outdoor event calendar with its new exhibition show to be held from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd April 2017 inclusive on the Crown Pier, St Peter Port.
The Guernsey Marine Traders Association LBG (GMTA), organisers of the Guernsey Boat Show have devised an event format where boat builders, yacht brokers, marine specialists and boating clothing and accessory retailers can showcase their products and services both in an enclosed marquee and on the water.
“2017 will be the launch pad for the Guernsey Boat Show to re-establish itself for the local community and to attract off-island sailing enthusiasts and tourists on an annual basis” said Richard Southern of New Horizon Yachts and GMTA member.
“Our objective is to stage a quality Guernsey Boat Show that will appeal to exhibitors from within the wealth of Guernsey marine and boating specialists plus those yacht and super yacht manufacturers who are on their way to the Jersey Boat Show that takes place one week after Guernsey’s.”
A 30m x 12m marquee on the end of the Crown Pier will be the focal point for the Guernsey Boat Show that will offer excellent exhibition space alongside a hospitality area where exhibitors can interact with spectators and view the visiting boats at their leisure. Entrance to the Guernsey Boat Show will be free and will open from 12pm to 5pm on Friday 21st 10am to 5pm Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd April 2017.
The GMTA decided on the dates to maximise the Guernsey Boat Show’s appeal to visiting boats and the cruise liner passengers who will be arriving off the visiting ships on both the Friday and Saturday of the Guernsey Boat Show.
“Guernsey has a very long and successful history of boatbuilding and marine trading excellence and the industry over the last few years has experienced renewed commercial growth.” said Matt Le Page, of the GMTA and committee member on the working group of the Guernsey Boat Show. “2018 will see the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Guernsey Marine Traders Association and this year is the perfect time to re-establish the Guernsey Boat Show so that it has real momentum going into the GMTA’s anniversary year.”
