Liberation Day Celebrations 2014
9th May is Guernsey’s national day as it remembers and celebrates the day when five long years of Occupation in WWII came to an end. It is a day where all age groups come together, young and old, to honour the most priceless of commodities – freedom.
The annual Liberation Celebrations span 12 hours starting with the military precision of the Liberation Parade, complete with the marching band and standard colours fluttering proudly in the breeze, to the skies above St. Peter Port being lit up by the sound, colour and spectacle of the fireworks that traditionally marks the end of Liberation Day.
10,000 – 15,000 spectators come into St. Peter Port to enjoy the huge wealth of entertainment that is on offer down the Sea Front.
