Liberation Day Celebrations 2013
Thursday 9th May Celebrations saw one of the largest crowds for years convening in St. Peter Port to remember and celebrate the 68th anniversary of the liberation of Guernsey from the Germans who had occupied the island from 1940 to 1945.
Each year residents of and visitors to Guernsey are able to enjoy an array of entertainment on the seafront and piers of St. Peter Port including local live entertainment, dancing, tasting the delights of the best of Guernsey local produce and plenty of activities avaliable for a wide range of ages.
The evening hosts a ‘mini’ music concert with top performances from local bands that keep everyone dancing leading up to the Liberation Firework Extravaganza Display to bring the celebrations to a glorious grand finale. It is truly a day to ‘Celebrate our Freedom’.
From 2013 the Liberation Day Celebrations commenced the build-up to a climax in 2015 for the 70th Anniversary. 2013 saw big changes and was crowned ‘the greatest showing of community spirit in years’ as the people of Guernsey flocked together in celebration.
