Mule Bretagne Bike Bash 2014
20 Jan 2019 - 20 Jan 2019
11:22 am - 11:22 am
The Mule Bretagne Brittany Bike Bash saw 25 riders take to the roads of Brittany in June to ride over 300 miles to raise money for Only Fools and Donkeys. The riders could chose to ride 50/55 or 75/80 miles a day and there two groups on each distance to allow for a fast and a slower group.
It was a fantastic trip and all the riders completed the ride. For many completing the 50 miles a day was a challenge but the beauty of the longer route meant the ride also appealed to more experienced riders who could set their own challenge.
Each rider was asked to raised £500 in sponsorship but all the riders raised more and the final total of sponsorship raised is an incredible £36,000!
£27,000 has been set aside for projects for the three charities OF&D has supported since it was founded in 2010: Le Rondin School, the Guernsey Sports Association for the Disabled and the St Martins Day Care Centre.
Some of the riders also requested that their sponsorship be split between a charity that were important to them and the following donations will be made:
– £2,000 Le Murier School
– £750 Guernsey Disabled Football Association
– £1,000 Special Needs Gym
– £1,000 Monday Club
– £750 Schools Rugby (girls and boys teams)
– £1,200 Cancer Research UK
– £1,100 donation to a family with a child with a rare intestinal condition
– £650 Royal Temple Yacht Club Sailing Academy
£1,000 will also be donated to the Dallaglio Foundation, which is where this all started. We set up OF&D as a result of completing two Dallaglio Cycle Slams in 2010 and 2012 to keep some of the money we raised on the Island. This donation will bring the total we have raised for the Foundation to £20,014!
Despite the wind and the pain but possibly because of the wine…..our Mules seem to want to do it again – so we will! The Mule de Normandie will take place in June 2016 and will take in historic sites across the region including the battlefields where will pay our respects shortly after the annual marking of the D-Day landings.
