Proms on the Pier 2012
This annual outdoor musical event, combining the very best of local musical talent with coverage of the Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall has become the grand finale of Guernsey’s summer. The free event is open to islanders and visitors, who are encouraged to bring a picnic, listen to the live music, wave free flags and join in with the traditional singing from the Royal Albert Hall. The finale to the evening sees local band The Barlows perform, ensuring that everyone leaves with broad smiles on their faces and feet dancing!
In 2012 The Guernsey Symphony Orchestra celebrated its 20th anniversary with a special performance for the first half of Proms on the Pier. The 70-piece Orchestra will be made up local amateur and invited professional musicians as well as guest soloist, cellist Angelique Lihou, and talented young British conductor Timothy Henty. The GSO programme featured popular classics and finished with the 1812 Overture, complete with Castle Cornet cannon and Town Church bells!
The Guernsey Symphony Orchestra will performed until 9pm when the second half of Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall beamed live on to the big screen on Albert Pier. Complimentary Union Jack flags were available to all as well as concert programmes with the words to the instantly recognisable Proms songs of Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem.
With many thanks to Principal Sponsors Credit Suisse and Generali Worldwide and Contributing Sponsors the Guernsey Arts Commission and Condor Ferries.
