Proms on the Pier 2014
2014 PROMS ON THE PIER – BIGGER & BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE
With the support of five Guernsey businesses Guernsey’s Summer Finale event “Proms on the Pier”, to be held on Saturday 13 September on Albert Pier, will be bigger and better than ever before.
Proms on the Pier has long been a firm favourite in Guernsey’s calendar of summer events as it is a winning combination of an outdoor concert with local Guernsey musicians and the uplifting music and singing of the Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall in London. The event embraces all age demographics and attracts thousands of people, visitors and islanders alike, to Albert Pier.
Investec Specialist Bank is the new headline sponsor of Proms on the Pier and is joining Principal Sponsor First Central Group and Gold Sponsors Guernsey Arts Commission, Odey Wealth Management and Sure Big Screen all of whom sponsored the 2013 event and have confirmed their commitment for 2014 Proms on the Pier.
The first half of the evening, an outdoor musical concert from 7.30pm to 9pm, will feature performances from Guernsey’s Bel Canto, Guernsey Male Voice Choir and the Guernsey Jazz Orchestra.
Shortly after 9pm, the focus will move to the Royal Albert Hall in London as the second half of the Last Night of the Proms is beamed live on to the big screen on Albert Pier. Spectators can wave their flags, don their oversized Guernsey and Union Jack flags and join in the uplifting singing that is synonymous with Last Night of the Proms: Rule Britannia, Elgar’s Pomp and Ceremony, Jerusalem and the National Anthem to name but a few.
2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the first screening of Walt Disney’s classic film, Mary Poppins, and a special Mary Poppins medley is part the second half of Last Night of the Proms.
We look forward to seeing you at 2014 Proms on the Pier on Albert Pier, Guernsey.
