The 80’s & Funk MUG Ball 2012
The 80’s Funk & MUG Ball held on Friday 18th May 2012 at the St Pierre Park Hotel helped to raise funds for the Charity Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG).
The evening saw a variety of entertainment compered by the highly amusing and memorable Deputy Kevin Stewart. The evening saw performances from members of Brian and Catherine Webster’s Guernsey Academy of Theatrical Education with guest appearances from the MUG trustees sporting their very own tutus in a one-off performance of the signet dance in Swan Lake.
Music was provided by Island favourite DJ Mazur with a ‘Guest Deck’ slot by none other than the Principle and Headmaster of Elizabeth College, Mr George Hartley to end the evening with an 80s disco.
John Burley held an auction and raffle in order to raise much needed funds for MUG, overall just under £20,000 was raised. MUG is a Guernsey Charitable Trust taken inspiration from the achievements of the Guernsey Pink Ladies. Their focus is to increase awareness, promote education and raise over £250,000 for research over the next three years all for prostate, bowel and testicular cancer. The aim is to get men, whatever their age, to be more confident, outgoing and questioning of their symptoms and to encourage men to seek medical advice and assistance at the earliest opportunity.
