The “Dam Busters” – 70th Anniversary Screening 2013
On Wednesday 11th September a special screening of the 1955 film “The Dam Busters” will take place in Frossard Theatre, Candie Gardens at 7.30pm in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the famous WW2 British Air Raid on the Mohne, Eder and Sorpe Dams in Germany.
‘Operation Chastise’ commonly known as ‘The Dam Busters’ was a raid on German Dams by the RAF 617 Squadron on 16-17 May 1943. The raid successfully saw the flooding of both the Ruhr and Eder Valleys causing catastrophic damage to German Industry in the area and is famed for the ingenious design and development of Barnes Wallis’ Bouncing Bomb. The 1955 film starring Michael Redgrave and Richard Todd is a recreation of the amazing true story focussing on the hard work and engineering brilliance behind the operation with a highly emotive triumphant end.
In support of the Guernsey Air Display the screening has a one-off special offer; £10 per ticket to include a viewing of the spectacular film ‘The Dam Busters’, 1 x Friend of the Guernsey Air Display 2013 Membership and 1 x limited edition enamel pin badge.
